Zap Zap Messenger

In case you've never heard of Telegram, I must notify you that the Internet is no longer as safe as it was in 1998, or even 2008. If more than a decade ago you could browse the web and communicate online under complete anonymity, today you can't. At least, not without putting some extra effort. What good is an Internet nickname if your IP is open information? In the same vein, what good is a VPN subscription, if the developers of your messaging app hand over their encryption keys to government authorities?

Telegram is currently the messaging app of choice for those who value freedom of speech and privacy of information at the same time. Chats and group chats on Telegram are always encrypted and never leaked. Telegram also allows for content creators and other known figures an alternate way to communicate with their subscribers in case their public accounts get disabled on 'certain larger' social media platforms.

Telegram also provides their API for other developers to build upon it. In this sense, not everything that you see in an app that connects to your Telegram account falls under the same security control.

So is the case with ZapZap Messenger. This messaging app uses your phone number to connect with your Telegram account. But why would you join the network through a third party? Well, at first glance, ZapZap Messenger has a charming leaf-green color theme, that much easier on the eyes than the standard Telegram color scheme. Of course, you can always create custom themes in Telegram, and you can certainly do the same in ZapZap.

ZapZap Messenger comes with its Channels and Groups that you can explore and join. On the flipside, you get to see some ads creeping up your contact list as well as on ZapZap sidebar on the right of the screen.

Concerning added "features," you can explore and download new themes from ZapZap's theme channel. In the same way, you can download sticker packs and invite contacts to play certain games.

Final Thoughts

I don't see a reason to use ZapZap over Telegram. The latter is the original app, so it's the best one to use if you're concerned with privacy. Moreover, the added features and themes are not enough to counterbalance the presence of ads.
